What to Do With All the Cards We Make (But Don’t Send)What to Do With All the Cards We Make (But Don’t Send)

If you’re anything like me, you probably have a little stack (or box… or drawer 😉) of handmade cards that you absolutely love — but for one reason or another, never quite sent.

Maybe the occasion passed.
Maybe the card turned out too good to part with.
Or maybe you simply enjoyed the process more than the mailing.

And here’s the thing I want you to hear loud and clear:

It is perfectly okay to keep your handmade cards.

We don’t always talk about this, but cards are small works of art. They represent creativity, time, intention, and joy. And they deserve to be enjoyed — even if that enjoyment happens right in your own home.

A New Way to Enjoy a Favorite Card

Today I’m sharing a fun and simple idea for turning a favorite card into something you can display and enjoy every day.

I had this Valentine card that I just couldn’t bring myself to give away. I loved the colors, the layers, the sweet little details — it made me smile every time I looked at it. So instead of tucking it away, I decided to keep it in a new way.

I started with one of our decorative wooden paddles (available in our shop) and covered it with designer series paper from the Made With Love collection using decoupage. This step alone transforms the paddle into a beautiful base that feels finished and intentional.

Next, I simply trimmed the back off the card and adhered the front directly onto the paddle. Easy, no stress, and no complicated measuring.

To finish it off, I made a soft, simple bow using white wired ribbon, then added two heart-shaped buttons from my stash for a little extra charm. Nothing fancy — just layers of things I already had and loved.

And just like that, a card meant for an envelope became a piece of seasonal décor.

Other Ways to Repurpose Cards You Love

Once you start thinking this way, the ideas really open up:

  • Display favorite cards on small easels or decorative stands

  • Frame them for seasonal wall décor

  • Use them on tiered trays or shelves

  • Turn them into mini signs for a craft room or desk

  • Add them to memory-keeping albums as creative snapshots of what you made and loved

These cards tell a story — of your creativity, your season of life, and the joy you felt while making them.

You Don’t Have to Give Everything Away

Not every project needs a recipient.
Not every card needs a stamp and an address.

Sometimes, the gift is the making… and the keeping.

So the next time you finish a card you adore and think, “I don’t know who I’d give this to,” consider this your permission slip to enjoy it yourself.

Because handmade should be enjoyed — and that includes by the maker. 🤍
